To Na Na 's dog ^.^
Mr. Na’s Dog Story
Have you ever given Soju to a dog? Maybe if you think a dog is a member of the family, or if you think a dog is just food, you haven’t had that experience. But if you think of dogs as your enemy, you might bother them like this. I would like to tell you about my friend and his dogs. One day he was at his father-in-law’s house. There are two dogs there. He isn’t interested in dogs so he just called the mother One Pot and the son One Dish. He always wanted them to sleep and leave him alone. On this day he had to go to a supermarket about 20 minutes from the house. He bought 3 bottles of Soju. On the way back, he got a bright idea. He wondered if dogs are omnivorous like humans. If so, can they drink Soju? When he got back he poured a half bottle of Soju into One Pot and One Dish’s food bowl. They didn’t drink it; they just smelled it. My friend was disappointed. He thought they didn’t drink the Soju because of the smell. So he went back to the supermarket again and bought four bottles of chocolate drink and returned home. When he got back he saw the dogs had spilled the Soju on the floor and their bowl was empty. He decided to give them the Soju when they were hungry. He knew if you drink Soju on an empty stomach you get drunk fast and have a stomach ache. My friend wanted to run an experiment and see if the dogs would also get drunk fast and get a stomach ache. He mixed half a bottle of Soju with the chocolate drink and poured it in their dish. One Dish was the first to come and taste the Soju. He LOVED it! One Pot saw this and also came over and began drinking the Soju/chocolate drink. My friend thought it was not nice for a mother and son to drink Soju together, because it violates traditional custom, be he decided to ignore that. After drinking two and a half bottles of Soju, One Pot threw up. Then One Dish threw up. It sounded very similar to how people sound. After throwing up some more, the dogs went to sleep. The next day the dogs didn’t eat. They just laid around. My friend concluded that Soju affects people and dogs the same way. My friend gave up drinking Soju because of his own reasons. Don’t drink too much because of the effects of Soju the next day.

Modern Atmosphere Created by Tiffany
Tiffany Atlas Collection
The jewelry house Tiffany based on 170 years of tradition proposes the Atlas collection that incorporates the modern sentiments of New York. The idea for design is taken from the Atlas watch that majestically decorates the main gate of its flagship store on the fifth avenue of New York. The Atlas collection was created in 1995 using bold and modern Roman numbers as the main motif, and it changes to a newer, more modern design every season.
In particular, pendants, bangles, earings, etc., which are made from 18k white gold, yellow gold, and simple silver, constitute an iconic collection that lives up to the identity of Tiffany: craftsmanship and an excellent design sense. It goes well with any kind of clothes.
The Atlas watch has a round or square-shaped case of 18k white gold or steel matched with various straps such as leather and satin. Ranged from a practical classic watch to a splendid jewelry watch set with diamonds, its designs are loved by both men and women of all ages.
The sophisticated and intense designs of the Atlas collection created by the sleek curves of the Roman numbers represent the modern and refined elegance of Tiffany.

Place of child-like innocence
Owl Museum
There was a girl who loved owls. Even when she became an adult, her love of owls never faded, and she is now the director of the Owl Museum. She collected anything and everything seemingly related to owls. Perhaps it is not surprising that she would one day open a museum and put her entire collection on display for all to see. At the museum, her child-like innocence is readily apparent behind the round spectacles, and the owls have twinkling eyes.
By Sim Mina; Photography by Lee Hyoseon
Owls, be my friends!
Ivy covers the entire building, and colorful murals are densely painted on the external walls. A smile spreads across one's face in anticipation that this museum is something truly special. A traditional Korean house-turned museum of 83m2 houses about 2,500 owls from about 80 countries around the world, sitting closely together in a cluster and showing off their beautiful plumage. The rafters on the ceiling are the original timbers, and the wooden pillars still stand here and there. The old pieces of furniture show the years they have witnessed and make the museum even more inviting.
The nest of owls reveals its true identity.
Director Bae Myeonghui's intense fondness of owls started with small crystal owl figurine she purchased on a school excursion in middle school. Her collection includes about 3,000 pieces and was amassed over a period of some 30 years. When her home could no longer accommodate her collection, her son suggested that she open the Owl Museum. The museum doors opened in 2003, and the public was invited to see the enormous collection of owls for the first time. How many things could an ordinary person, an ordinary housewife, have collected? I did a quick and rough calculation and was immediately put to shame. The only overseas trip Director Bae ever made was to a museum in Japan, and even this was specifically at the invitation of Sendai City. Her collection was assembled by visits to countless antique shops, bazaars, exhibitions, flea markets, and other such places.
The power of a small museum
Even the smallest things in the museum are related to owls. Crafted owl figurines from Africa, paintings, sculptures, ceramic pieces, stamps, lighters, savings boxes, bells, postcards, rocks, watches, canes, and accessories; you can find owls everywhere. The more than 200-year-old table from England in the center is a space where you can have a cup of tea and a chat or do drawings. There are always paper and colored pencils on the table for children to draw the owls they see. Their drawings are displayed in the exhibition room for some time. Children and foreign visitors are given their own personal tours. Members of owl clubs also often visit the museum, and tea and drinks are sincerely prepared for them, free of charge. Even tea cups feature owl characters, bringing a spontaneous smile to your face. You can also purchase souvenirs, mugs, accessories, posters, T-shirts, and other such items.

Designing spaces for rest and relaxation
Nina Ahn, a theme park resort designer
I asked her the main reason for her success. She indifferently said that things led from one to another. But when taking a close look at what these "things" were, it is quite evident why she is at the position she is today.
Written by Reporter Heo Su-jeong Photographed by Reporter Lee Hyo-seon
Where passion leads
"I just did what I was told to do, and that's how I came to be what I am today. Also, I am not married. In a foreign land, I had no choice but to work hard since there was nobody to take care of me."
This answer was far from what I expected from a woman who is widely recognized as successful and who is known as the "woman who designs dreams" and "the first Korean theme park designer".
She received both a bachelor and master's degree from the State University of San Francisco, after which she became the first Korean to join Walker, a world-renowned design company. She has considerable experience in designing well-known theme parks across the globe, including Disney Land, Universal Studios, Wonderland in Beijing, China, the Venus Sport Shopping Mall in Tokyo, Japan, as well as the Lotte World in Japan and Seoul. She is currently working for the Cuningham Group, which is also renowned as a design company, and is in charge of theme parks and resorts all around the world, including Korea.
I became to wonder why she had chosen a theme park designer as her occupation since it was uncommon in Korea. But the answer she gave to this question was also nothing out of the ordinary: She simply replied, "That was what I was responsible for when I first joined a US company after graduating. I began with taking care of small errands and then gradually learned more about the subject." I guess I was anticipating some type of wonderful success story, and looked for an answer like, "I wanted to give hope and dreams to children" or "My dream was to design imaginary worlds ever since I was little", which would have been typical for a person who designs space that gives enjoyment and relaxation to many people.
I was worried that the interview wouldn't go as smoothly as hoped, but didn't worry for long as I realized that she was being completely honest with me in comparison to many other people who make use of every chance to exaggerate and brag about even the tiniest of successes. I began to think that the truth was hidden inside these simple and short answers. Then I asked again how she came to join the first company she worked at. As expected, she thought for herself for a moment and started a story in which I was able to find the reasons for her success.
She was very proficient in French in high school. Her dream was to become a French translator. She majored in French in college, which she entered with outstanding skills in French conversation. It was too boring for her because other students just started learning the alphabet. She was confident that she would be chosen as a student sent abroad to study at state expense, but the requirement was to finish two years of college. She believed it was a waste of time. She wanted to study overseas with financial support from her family, but her family's business was not doing so well at that very moment. This is when a public notice made by Korean Air grabbed her attention. Korean Air, which operated routes between Seoul and Paris, was urgently looking for stewardesses.
"By chance, I saw a recruitment announcement in small letters on the newspaper. Korean Air was, I think, recruiting 40 people, but around 1600 people applied for the job. The competition was overwhelming. It was kind of reckless for me to apply for the job without graduating from college. But I believed becoming a stewardess would enable me to frequently visit France and thus make me more closer to realizing my dream."
There were very few people back then who had a good command of the language. She succeeded in passing the test and became a stewardess for international flights. This is how she frequented France and the US.
But the France she visited was nothing like she dreamed of. She thought the nation would have a dynamic and animated culture, but her thoughts changed after visiting the nation. She became to think that it was a nation that was living on the glory of its past. In contrast, the US seemed like a nation that had endless possibilities. As such, she started to make preparations to study overseas without any hesitation. Whenever she had time after work, she would go to her hotel room and study English and prepare herself for life in the US.
It became clear to me that her first answer - that she just became to be what she is today because she did her best on tasks that were given to her - was the result of her being excessively modest or her not being able to pinpoint exactly how she had made a success of her career. I believe the secret behind her success is passion and efforts. I asked her if she thought so, too.
"It is quite a difficult question to answer, but yes, I agree. What is clear is that I had more passion than anybody I knew back then. I was passionate about going overseas to learn more. I guess even though you don't have a clear idea on what occupation you want, if you have enough passion and make strenuous efforts, the world will steadily give you clues on what you really want."
"Switching off": My way of resting
She is now working for the Cuningham Group, the largest design company in California, US, and is in charge of Korean and Chinese related projects. Based on many years of experience in set design, she is carrying out layout design for resorts and entertainment parks. It was easy to guess that she would be under a lot of stress since she is in charge of a wide range of tasks, ranging from small tasks to drawing the big picture.
Then how does this woman, who designs a place for rest and relaxation, spend her time resting? Since she designs world-renowned resorts and entertainment parks, wouldn't she rest at a wonderful resort in some splendid area? But her answer was rather simple.
"I just let go of things and stay at home. I 'switch off'. I just don't contact anybody for around three days and spend time looking at pictures or reading books. I spend time doing nothing, but this gives me a chance to refresh my mind and make enough energy to move on. Many Koreans believe taking a rest is a luxury that only a certain people can enjoy, but I believe it is necessary to regard resting as something essential in our lives, just as eating."
She says she loves drawing, but at work she has no choice but to design according to the needs of her clients and in consideration of functionalities. As such, her personal desire for creativity is satisfied when she has time to rest by herself.
She turned 52 this year, and is still single. I forced myself to ask if she wasn't lonely, even though it might have been rude.
"Yes, I do feel 'physically' lonely when I am having a meal by myself and think that it would be nice to have someone sitting next to me. But I believe loneliness, in its truest meaning, is felt when one loses oneself, not when there is nobody beside you. Many of my friends or people in my age group have lost their own identities. I am not that lonely because I have not lost myself yet. I believe this was possible because I made my own choices throughout my lifetime, without being forced into making decisions. Come to think of it, life is fair, isn't it?"
This is probably why I couldn't sense any kind of tiredness that I usually feel from people around her age. She was in fact lively. I believe this is because she has a heart of a young person who continuously challenges herself, instead of limiting herself and becoming complacent with what she has now.

Style New
Italian Tapas Style Restaurant
Le Petit Cru Proudly Opens
One can hardly discuss wine and dinner in a romantic atmosphere in Seoul without talking about Samcheong-dong. The restaurants there have become enormously popular, and there is increasing criticism that the proprietors have jacked up prices to exorbitant levels. Le Petit Cru, an aspiring Italian Tapas style restaurant, intends to buck the trend and offer quality cuisine and wines at reasonable prices.
By Heo Sujeong; Photography by Lee Hyoseon
Le Petit Cru opened on the third and fourth floors of a new building next to the administrative office of Samcheong-dong on April 18. It is owned and operated not by an individual entrepreneur but D&F, which also operates the AK duty-free shop. It is perhaps for this reason that the staff, cuisine, and service are already professionally set, proving D&Fs operational expertise gained from running specialized tea shops such as Tea Caféand Lupicia and bakeries such as 리롬드뺑.
At the entrance, a vintage poster by Cappiello, considered the father of 20th century modern posters, catches your eye. Other works inside can be appreciated as well, including those shown on the menus on each table. Le Petit Cru aims to become an ‘Italian Tapas’ establishment that offers Italian cuisine by the Spanish Tapas style. Tapas, originally hors d'oeuvres served with drinks especially in Spanish bars, is entirely appropriate for Italian cuisine. Small cuttlefish filled with stuffing, spring chicken poured over with champagne rose tea sauce, and other dishes offer rich, unique tastes. The most popular main dish is mutton steak grilled over charcoal.
Wines are actually offered at regular wine shop prices, with a corkage fee of only KRW 20,000. A more expensive wine can be had at a bargain compared to any other restaurant.
The restaurant has a calm and gracious ambiance. Vintage furniture and small items are used for tables where the wait staff stands ready to serve. These and the decorative cabinets, mirrors, and other appointments add to the sense of refinement. The fourth floor can accommodate private meetings, and the wide terrace off of the third floor is open to the main street of Samcheong-dong. The restaurant also has the advantage of having the only underground parking lot in the district.
Le Petit Cru is one of very few establishments that is appropriate nearly every type of event, from elegant formal dinners, tea or wine after visiting a gallery, to small parties with friends.

Campaign of the Year
Now Both the Scale and the Enjoyment Increased Twice
Korea International Art Fair (KIAF) 2007
Korean International Art Fair (KIAF), which was established in 2002 with an aim to become a hub of Northeast Asia's art market, will be held at COEX this year. Celebrating its sixth year this year, the size of the art fair will be twice that of previous years'. Let us give you a preview of KIAF 2007, which has taken further steps toward its initial goal.
By Park Jeongseon; Information provided by KAIF (02-6000-2501~3)
Since its holding in 2002, KIAF has aimed to invigorate the art market and popularize art, and achieved much of its goal. It offered art fans with an opportunity to appreciate excellent works of art and increase their collection through one occasion and has continuously laid the groundwork to become an art fair that represents Northeast Asia.
Regarding KIAF 2007, first of all, the size of its exhibition increased twice this year. Its exhibition will be held at two places, the Pacific Ocean Hall and Indian Ocean Hall of COEX, at the same time, and 208 art galleries from 18 countries will participate to show a total of about 5,000 pieces of art. It will be difficult to see all works on exhibit in one day.
Not only the increased size but also various art-related programs will ensure this year's art fair becomes a more colorful event than previous years'. Following China, Germany, and France, KIAF 2007 invited Spain as the hosting country: 14 spanish galleries with international reputation will bring high-level works of art from Spain.
Now with KIAF which has been growing at a rapid pace year after year, you do not have to envy any longer magnificent international art fairs held overseas. It has continuously secured its position as Asia's foremost art fair and increased its values.

Trot /
Trot, pronounced as "teuroteu" in Korean (sometimes derisively called ppongjjak), is the oldest form of Korean pop music. It developed in the years before and during the Japanese occupation.
Trot music has received criticism from nationalists, who allege that it derives from the Japanese music genre of enka, especially its scale. Defenders of trot, however, claim that it had begun to develop prior to the Japanese invasion, and simply developed in parallel with the Japanese style. The name itself derives from a shortening of "foxtrot", a ballroom dance which influenced the characteristic simple beat of the genre.
This style of music has recently increased in popularity due to the emergence of "semi-trot" singers such as Jang Yoon Jeong, who had great crossover success with her first single "어머나!" (an exclamation similar to "Oh my goodness!"). This has led to both an increased awareness of older trot musicians and the debut of other singers and groups wanting to capitalize on the genre's comeback (including LPG and Super Junior T).
